Our Story

Hello from Jackie & Mike!

We are the hands and hearts behind Taz River Artisans. We started this business because we’re makers at our core. We wanted to take our creativity and turn it into tangible, functional goods that people can use and love every day. We’re creative people who love our family, our dogs, and the process of crafting something from scratch.

The Makers

Jackie is the maker behind Taz River’s custom bags and accessories, with a special affinity for those made for dogs and their humans. Each bag is not just sewn—it’s carefully built with intention, precision, and heart, reflecting her belief that the maker’s touch matters just as much as the materials.

Because she is passionate about supporting other small businesses, she sources many of her designs and high quality fabrics from independent pattern makers and fabric artists she trusts and admires. Even her hardware and thread largely comes from small family-owned businesses.

Mike is the maker behind Taz River’s wood- and laser-craft. He creates everything from cutting boards and reclaimed wood holders to laser-engraved tiles, pet portraits, compass roses, and pop culture–inspired pieces across wood, tile, acrylic, and more. His style blends traditional handwork with modern tools—always built with care, always meant to last.

The Inspiration Our company is named after Taz and River, two beloved dogs who have passed on but continue to inspire us. We keep their memory alive through our work. These days, we share our lives (and our workspace) with Jasper and Stormy, who supervise the operation and ensure we take enough breaks.

The Silent Partners And finally, meet Quinn and Mani. They are our mannequin models, essential for product photos and keeping us company at craft fairs. If you see them, say hello—they are great listeners!
